Because GRROWLS-NY does not have a shelter, we rely solely on our foster home network to provide a safe and stable temporary home to get our dogs ready for adoption. It’s simple: the more people who open their homes for fostering, the more dogs we can save. It’s a rewarding way to give to our organization and it’s a critical part of what we do.
Fostering is very different from adopting a dog. The foster home plays a primary role in helping a dog get ready for their forever home. The information they provide to the adoption coordinator is instrumental in helping to find a home to best meet the needs of each dog. Many of our dogs have had little to no training and need people with experience to help them become adoptable.
It takes a very special person to let a dog go to their forever home.
Fosters may only be asked to take a dog in once or twice a year. The minimum amount of time a dog would stay with you is two weeks, the maximum is the time needed for the dog to get ready to be adopted and the time it takes to make the right match for the dog. All expenses for veterinary care is paid by GRROWLS.
GRROWLS does not allow fosters to adopt their first foster. Please do not apply to foster if your goal to adopt, and not foster.
If you are still interested in fostering, please fill out a foster application and a volunteer will contact you with more information.
