The GRROWLS-NY, Inc Adoption Process...

• All dogs taken in are placed in a foster home for at least 2 weeks in order to allow the dog time to adjust to the surroundings and to allow us to fully evaluate the dog’s temperament and needs.

• Once your application is received, it is reviewed for completeness, this document is sent to confirm receipt, and any gaps or concerns will be covered with you.

• The application is forwarded to a regional home visit coordinator who will arrange a visit at your home.

• The home visit enables us to understand your environment, including requirements of your family, existing pets, schedule and location. This information is crucial for us to make quality matches – we need to understand both the dog’s requirements and the adopters’.

• The home visit report is forwarded to the adoption coordinator along with you application.

• When a potential match is found, the adoption coordinator will call you, based on our information about you and the dogs.

• You will be requested to visit the dog at the foster home. This is so that you can get the best idea of the dog’s behavior and temperament at a location where he is comfortable.

• After the visit, take some time to think about the dog and discuss the potential adoption thoroughly with your family.

• At this point, both you and the foster home will contact the adoption coordinator and let her know how you felt the visit went.

• If all parties are still in agreement, the adoption is approved and arrangements are made to transfer the dog to his new ‘forever home’.
